PLANETARY CONSCIOUSNESS
AS AN ATTAINABLE GOAL
Planetary consciousness is the
recognition of the vital interdependence and essential interconnection of
all humankind and the earth. It is a consciousness that can help us create a
shared vision of “a united humanity living in harmony with nature”.
Russell Paul Schofield, founder of Actualism addresses
this in “The Declaration of Actual Independence”,
which can be found elsewhere on this web site. Written more than 30 years
ago, this declaration helped to initiate the “new spirit of Humanity” for
which we are all, in effect, serving as midwives. As we join together in
consciousness, we stand with many world leaders and thinkers and affirm our
intention that it Be and that it Be Here, Now!
Planetary
Consciousness Gathering Momentum
Arthur C. Clarke wrote, “At the dawn of
the new Millennium, we have an opportunity to make a better world. If we act
with responsibility and compassion, we can change the way we relate to each
other and to the planet. I much appreciate the efforts of the Planetary
Vision Festival to focus attention on the unity of humankind and the need
for us to evolve a planetary consciousness.”
The Dalai Lama said, in this extract
from “message of His Holiness The Dalai Lama to the Club of Budapest on the
occasion of The World Day of Planetary Consciousness”:
…Many of the world’s problems and
conflicts arise because we have lost sight of the basic humanity that binds
us all together as a human family. We tend to forget that despite the
diversity of race, religion, ideology, and so forth, people are equal in
their basic wish for peace and happiness. However, this will be achieved
neither by merely talking or thinking about it, nor by waiting for someone
else to do something about it. We each have to take responsibility as best
we can within our own sphere of activity. As free human beings we can use
our unique intelligence to try to understand our world and ourselves...
